Our Guarantee: The Chrono6538 Authentication Process
Every watch we sell undergoes a rigorous, multi-point authentication and inspection process. This is our Retail-Ready Promise: buy with absolute confidence.
The Retail-Ready Promise
In the pre-owned luxury watch market, authenticity is everything. A counterfeit or compromised watch is not just a financial loss; it is a betrayal of trust. That is why every single watch that passes through Chrono6538, whether it is part of our shop inventory or sourced specifically for you, undergoes a rigorous, multi-point authentication process. This is our Retail-Ready Promise.
Our Multi-Point Inspection Process
Step 1: Provenance & Documentation Check
Where available we review the watch’s documentation, including the warranty card, serial numbers, and sales receipts. We cross-reference serial numbers with stolen watch databases and brand archives to ensure a clean history. For watches that come with no paperwork we only source these via trusted wholesalers whom we trust. Each naked watch (ie no paperwork) is inspected in-house using our years of experience and knowledge. Every watch is GUARANTEED giving you peace of mind, and in the unlikely event of any issue with provenance we will always refund your money.
Step 2: External Examination
Every Watch undergoes a detailed external examination. This includes:
- Case & Bracelet: Checking for correct weight, finishing quality (brushing and polishing patterns), and the sharpness and depth of engravings.
- Dial & Hands: Examining the printing quality, lume application consistency, and hand finishing under 10x and 20x magnification. Dial details are compared against known genuine examples from the same production period.
- Crystal & Bezel: Verifying the material (e.g., sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating), the alignment and action of the bezel, and the quality of the cyclops lens magnification.
- Crown & Pushers: Checking the logo engraving, threading quality, and gasket condition.
Step 3: Movement Inspection
Every Watch is inspected to verify:
- Calibre Identification: Ensuring the movement is the correct caliber for the watch’s reference number and year of production.
- Component Authenticity: Checking for genuine, brand-specific components and finishing. This includes verifying the rotor, bridges, mainspring barrel, and balance wheel against known genuine examples.
- Condition Assessment: Evaluating the movement for any signs of damage, water intrusion, corrosion, or improper servicing by unqualified technicians.
- Serial Number Verification: Where accessible, verifying the movement serial number matches the case and documentation.
Step 4: Performance Testing
Every watch is serviced and ready to go (unless we state otherwise) with all the following checked.
- Timekeeping Accuracy: The results must fall within the manufacturer’s stated tolerances.
- Water Resistance: We conduct a water resistance test to verify the integrity of the seals, gaskets, and crystal. This is essential for dive watches and any watch rated for water resistance. Please note any Vintage watch or more than 5 years old is not tested.
- Power Reserve: For automatic watches, we verify the power reserve meets the manufacturer’s specification.
- Chronograph Function: For chronograph watches, we test the start, stop, and reset functions to ensure smooth and accurate operation.
Our Certification
Every watch we sell comes with our own certificate along with any manufacturer papers, including:
- Brand, model, and reference number
- Serial number verification
- Movement calibre and condition
- Overall condition grade
