Why Omega is the value play in Swiss watches
Omega produces at volume, so the secondary market is deep and prices sit at or below retail rather than above it. There is no allocation, no waiting list and no need to build a purchase history with a dealer to be offered one. The result is that condition and specification decide what you pay, not scarcity.
The Speedmaster is the exception at the top end — Moonwatch demand keeps prices firm — but even there you are buying on the open market rather than joining a queue. Our price index publishes the median and typical range for each line so you can check any price against real data.
What to check on a pre-owned Omega
- Movement and case serials — checked against Omega reference data. Omega’s extract-from-the-archives service can confirm original configuration for older pieces.
- Dial originality — redialled vintage Omega is common and materially affects value. We report refinished dials where identified.
- Bracelet and end links — correct end link references matter on Seamaster and Speedmaster. Stretch is disclosed.
- Bezel insert — replacements are common on diver models and are noted.
- Water resistance — not warranted on any pre-owned watch unless pressure tested and stated.
- Service history — reported where known.
