The watches of the 2026 Emmys

The interesting thing about the watches at this year’s Emmys is how few of them were trying to win anything. The ceremony was awash with gold, but the gold was mostly flat, mostly small and mostly old-fashioned in the best sense — dress watches rather than showpieces. On a red carpet that has spent a decade drifting towards enormous sports models, that reads as a genuine turn.

The identifications below come from Sam Moore and Ian Thorley writing for Something About Rocks on 15 September 2026, who covered the night piece by piece. Where we do not carry something, that is said plainly rather than glossed over.

A Rolex Lady Datejust 279161G — the family Zendaya wore on the night, in a version you can actually buy.

What did Zendaya wear?

A Rolex Lady-Datejust 28 in white gold, reference 279459RBR, according to Thorley’s report — a 28mm case with 44 diamonds on the bezel and a dial paved with 291 more under black Roman numerals, on a President bracelet set with a further 596. She has been a Rolex testimonee since October 2025 and wore the same watch to the Oscars in March.

The diamond-set version is a specific and rare thing, but the Lady-Datejust itself is not — it is one of the most quietly wearable watches Rolex makes, and a plainer one does the same job of sitting properly on a small wrist without shouting about it.

And Noah Wyle’s Cartier?

Wyle wore a Cartier à Guichets in eighteen-carat gold, a jump-hour design where the time appears through two small apertures rather than on a conventional dial. Moore notes the house brought it back into production last year.

We do not carry an à Guichets, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we do carry is the wider Cartier family it came from — the flat gold rectangle, the blued hands, the Roman numerals — and for most people a Tank or a Pasha is the more useful expression of the same idea.

Which watches turned up on the men?

Matthew Rhys wore a Hublot Classic Fusion 3-Hands King Gold Pavé at 38mm, set with 36 diamonds. Colman Domingo wore an Omega Speedmaster 38. Thomas Doherty wore a TAG Heuer Carrera Astronomer. Jon Hamm wore a Panerai Radiomir Perpetual Calendar, and Charlie Hunnam a Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar.

The common thread is size. Three of those are 38mm or thereabouts, on men who could easily have worn something twice as loud. A 38mm case under a dinner jacket cuff is a deliberate decision, and it is the one the tailoring has always wanted.

What about the vintage on the carpet?

Nicole Kidman wore a 1960s Omega Saphette from her own collection — not a loan, not a partnership, just a watch she owns. Mark Ronson wore an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding with a malachite dial, and Tyler James Williams a Hublot Classic Fusion Aerofusion Moonphase in black ceramic.

Kidman’s is the one worth noticing. A personal vintage piece on a night built around brand partnerships is a small act of independence, and it is also the most repeatable idea of the evening: the watch that suits you may already exist, second-hand, at a fraction of what the carpet is wearing.

Which of these can you actually buy here?

Four of the families outright. The Speedmaster in several generations, the Carrera including chronographs close to Doherty’s, the Panerai Radiomir case shape, and the Hublot Classic Fusion. The Lady-Datejust too, in plainer form than Zendaya’s.

The Vacheron Traditionnelle and the Cartier à Guichets we do not have, and a perpetual-calendar Radiomir is a different proposition from a time-only one. Saying so costs us nothing and saves you a wasted click.

What does a red carpet actually tell you?

Less about what to buy than about what is being worn well. Almost every watch on that list is under 40mm, most are on leather or a bracelet rather than rubber, and several are gold — which has been the quiet story in watches for three or four years now and finally looks settled rather than fashionable.

If you take one thing from the night, take the proportion rather than the reference number. A smaller, flatter watch under a cuff is a look that has never once dated. Browse Omega, TAG Heuer, Panerai and Hublot and see how much of that carpet is within reach — every piece authenticated by Chrono6538 before it is listed.
