Why Tiffany is worth buying pre-owned
Tiffany silver in particular is one of the widest gaps between boutique price and secondary price in all of fine jewellery. Half of what we list sits between £500 and £1,000 — pieces that cost considerably more new and are, in good condition, visually indistinguishable from new. The gold and diamond lines hold value far better, which is why the range here runs to £11,150.
The other reason is discontinuation. Elsa Peretti and Paloma Picasso designs come in and out of production, and Atlas has been through several revisions. If you want a specific discontinued reference, the secondary market is the only market.
What to check on pre-owned Tiffany
- Hallmarks and maker’s marks — genuine pieces carry consistent marks appropriate to the era and the metal. Absence or inconsistency is reported.
- Silver condition — tarnish cleans, but over-polished silver loses crispness in the engraving. We say which is which.
- Stone setting — replaced or aftermarket stones are identified and disclosed.
- Chain and clasp wear — the commonest failure point on necklaces and bracelets.
- Pouch and box — listed where present, absence stated where not. A blue box proves nothing on its own; the piece is authenticated on the piece.
