How Much Is a Pre-Owned IWC Ingenieur Worth? (UK Guide, 2026)

Pre-owned IWC Ingenieur IW322701 with a black dial and integrated steel bracelet

A pre-owned IWC Ingenieur starts at around £2,800 to £3,800 for a steel IW322701 from the 2013–2017 run in honest condition, while the current 2023-generation 40mm models — the ones that brought back Gérald Genta’s original design — sit at roughly £9,000 to £12,000 as of July 2026. Vintage Genta-era pieces and two-tone versions run higher still. These are wider open-market asking prices, a floor rather than what a checked and guaranteed watch costs.

The Ingenieur is IWC’s integrated-bracelet sports watch, and its story runs through the most famous name in watch design. In 1976 IWC asked Gérald Genta — fresh from the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus — to design the Ingenieur SL. It became the third pillar of his luxury-steel-sports trilogy, with a bezel held by five signature screws and a case built around soft-iron anti-magnetic protection first used on the model in 1955.

What does a pre-owned IWC Ingenieur cost in 2026?

Two things dominate the price: which generation, and whether it is steel, two-tone or vintage. The 2013–2017 references are the value era; the 2023 relaunch reset prices sharply upward by returning to the Genta design; and original 1970s SL pieces are collector territory. Box, papers and service history matter throughout.

Ingenieur (pre-owned) Typical UK asking price, July 2026
IW322701 42mm steel, 2013–17 (worn, no box/papers) £2,800 – £3,800
IW322701 / IW323310 42mm steel, good full set £3,800 – £5,000
Laureus & other limited editions, steel £5,500 – £7,500
2023-generation 40mm steel (IW328901 / IW328903) £9,000 – £12,000
2023-generation two-tone / titanium £11,000 – £16,000
Vintage SL “Genta” 1832 (1976) / early 666 £8,000 – £20,000+

Figures are wider open-market asking prices (Chrono24 UK, Watchfinder, Watches of Switzerland, WatchCharts), as of July 2026 — indicative floors, not Chrono6538’s prices. Chrono6538 sells authenticated, checked and guaranteed pieces at a premium to the bare private-market floor.

Which Ingenieur is the smart buy?

The best value on the market right now is a 2013–2017 IW322701: a 40mm steel Ingenieur with a soft-iron inner case, a clean black or silver dial, and a comfortable integrated bracelet, at a fraction of what the current model costs. It is the watch that gives you the Ingenieur idea — anti-magnetic, sporty-formal, understated — without the 2023 premium.

The Laureus “Sport for Good” limited editions, with their blue dials, are a collectable middle option. The 2023-generation 40mm is the one to buy if you specifically want the reborn Genta design and the in-house movement — but you pay current-market money for it. True vintage SL pieces are a specialist purchase and should be bought with expert eyes.

How well has the Ingenieur held its value?

Unusually, the model was re-rated upward when IWC relaunched it in 2023 on the Genta design — older references look like relative bargains as a result, and the newest ones have held close to retail because demand outstripped the modest supply. That is a description of what has happened, not a forecast; integrated-sports-watch values in particular can move sharply, and this is not investment advice.

What to check before you buy

Check the five bezel screws are correct and unmolested, confirm the reference and bracelet match the case, and make sure the movement runs to time. On the anti-magnetic models the soft-iron cage matters, so avoid pieces with obvious water or magnetism damage. A full set with box and papers adds real money and makes the watch easier to sell on.
